The National Democratic Alliance government aims at achieving higher agricultural yield and double the farmers' income by 2022. Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh says yogic farming can play a major role.
He further says the Centre will promote yogic farming to help increase the country's farm production. "We will support the idea of yogic farming under the Prampragat Krishi Vikas Yojana, under which organic farming too is encouraged," Singh said at an event on organic farming.
Government argues that traditional agri-practices, including organic farming, are being promoted since excessive use of chemicals and fertilisers had harmed soil quality. Professor Sunita Pande of Agronomy Department at the Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology claims that ongoing research on wheat under yogic farming practices has indicated positive results.
The reduced resilience against climate stress and pest infestation, exacerbated by genetically modified seeds, has added to the insecurity experienced by the farmers. In India, starting in 2008, farmers began combining meditative thought-based practices with organic farming.
The initial group of farmers were from farming families, and were also practiced meditators. As such the affect on crop farming was remarkably positive. The seeds or a sample of the seeds are placed in the home, where meditation is practiced regularly. Seeds are typically empowered for 10 days before sowing, morning and evening for 15-45 minutes at a time. Thoughts of peace, love, strength are imbued into the seeds by the farmer.
Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Radha Mohan Singh said at a workshop on organic farming at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on October 7 that farmers first of all process seeds based on yoga proceedings that is to say that the seeds are recharged by dint of divine powers resulting in the escalation of their sprouting powers.
Thereafter the five elements are made conducive through yoga proceedings before the seeds are sown. Raj yoga shoots out the fertilizing strength of the soil along with the increased activation of micro metabolism thereof. It strengthens the plants and their roots.
The farmers through the modus operendi of vibration conveys to the plants about peace, love as well as purity which leads the resistance power of crops and its growth along with the increasement of production, the Minister stated.
