Hyderabad: 11th Annual Regional SIP Abacus & Mental Arithmetic Contest, held at Shree Convention hall in Kompally, Hyderabad on Sunday witnessed a wonderful performance from participants.

1500 children in the age group of 7 to 12years, from 49 SIP centres across Telangana, showcased their arithmetic skills by doing 130 mathematical sums in 5 minutes and 100 sums of multiplication and divisions in just 3 minutes faster than calculators at SIP.

It was formally inaugurated by Pooja Ramchandani, Principal of Sadhu Vaswani international school who was a special guest along with Uma Swaminathan, Kirit, Jay and Praveen of SIP Academy. Pooja Ramchandani also unveiled the question paper.

Speaking on the occasion Pooja Ramchandani said “Great India cannot be made from Parliament, but, will be made from schools and colleges”.
“Unfortunately the biggest challenge of today’s educational system is getting good, qualified and passionate teachers. Nobody ever wants to be a teacher. In my entire career spanning over 30 years in education no child ever told me that he would like to become a teacher. Teaching is the only profession that teaches all the profession. We need to promote Teaching career. We need passionate teachers”, she added.

She also urged teachers to prepare students for life and not for exams.

Later K P Vivekanand, MLA joined and addressed the gathering. He was amazed to see the arithmetical competency of the kids of 7 to 12years. He was impressed at their performance so much so that he said he was being a Civil Engineer Students wouldn’t be able to calculate sums not even one fourth speed of the kids.

I am jealous about you. We didn’t have such coaching in our childhood. I urge SIP Academy to expand their horizon and reach out to more students, so every student can take the benefit of your training. The young MLA told the tiny tots to believe in them to achieve miracles in life.
