In all, 95,000 candidates had applied for exam. Prelims examination consists of 150 questions and is for 150 marks. For the first time, APPSC introduced the negative marking, which makes it similar to Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)’s Civil Services prelims examination. An MBA graduate G Manasa and Group 1 aspirant, said that her preparation for the examination is going on well and it is her first attempt. She is confident that she would be qualified for the Mains.

She said that after introducing negative making in the examination, one has to answer the questions only if they are sure about the answer, and avoid blind guessing as every single mark would be important as there was a huge competition.
Manasa said that there was no clarity in the syllabus of history which covers ancient Indian history to modern scientific development. She further said that the syllabus was vast and comprehensive.

Another Group 1 aspirant B Padmaja said that the job aspirants have to wait for years before they get a government job, while referring to candidates who took up examination in 2012. They had to wait for the job due to various reasons. She said that if the examinations are conducted as per schedule, it would be better for the candidates. She said that most of the candidates appearing for Group 1 are already working in the government services as Group 2 and Group 3 staff and are appearing for Group 1 prelims. She said that of the 95,000 applicants, less than 4,000 would be shortlisted for
the Mains examination which is a very stiff competition, she added.
