Hanamkonda: Tension prevailed at St Peters Central Public School in Hanamkonda as large number of students and their parents staged a flash protest as the school authorities have given English medium question paper to Telugu medium students appearing for the NEET entrance exam held here on Sunday. It might be noted that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2017 was conducted for the students seeking admission into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and Veterinary programmes across the country. The test was conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) across the nation.

As many as 850 students appeared for the exam in this centre. But when the examination started must to the distress of Telugu medium students they were given English medium question paper sets. About 144 students opted for Telugu as medium and were given English and Hindi question papers. Much to the surprise of the students the invigilators questioned them if there was a provision to appear for the test in Telugu medium, the students alleged.

When the issue was informed to higher officials the students asked to wait for some time so that they could find a Telugu question paper and get photocopies of the same. After some time the students were told there was no Telugu question paper. Following which the students could not take the examination and compelled to return blank OMR sheets with tears rolling down their eyes.

“We have spent two years in intermediate and took up one year of long term coaching and prepared well for the exam. Now none of our fault of mine we missed the chance to take the exam and get a seat in good medical college,” lamented Kavya and Sushmita of Hanamkonda.

‘Who is responsible for this? I have been studying in Telugu medium since childhood and hence opted for Telugu as medium in NEET exam and expected to do well in the test and a bright career in medicine,” questioned Amrutha. The parents and students have demanded the CBSE officials and concerned ministers to initiate measures to ensure that students’ career was affected.

Another examination should be conducted for the students so that they could not loss their academic year, a parent called T Bhimshanker demanded. The CBSE has issued a slew of instructions for the candidates, like restriction on use of toilet in the last 30 minutes of the exam, to wear loose clothes, slippers or sandals instead of shoes and have their hair tied. But they don’t have the minimum sense on how to conduct the test, complained another parent.

Meanwhile, a group of angry parents have reportedly lodged a complaint to local police against the NEET district coordinator Mathias Reddy. Warangal RDO Venkat Reddy, ACP P Muralidhar and others visited the school and assured students justice.
