Hyderabad: Communist Party of India State committee secretary Ch Venkat Reddy on Friday demanded that the State government provide funds to its primary education institutions to protect them from the private sector. He condemned the government’s decision to close down 4,637 schools on the pretext of no basic amenities, no staff and no English medium. The government had decided to close down the schools without solving these problems, he said.

Reddy expressed worry over mushrooming of private educational institutions with the closure of government schools. Private institutions had been indulging in educational business with bizarre rules and regulations, he felt.“The government should note the point that it is the SC, ST, BC and MBC students, who are below the poverty line, go to government schools for education. Ignoring Supreme Court’s observation in this regard is not correct,” he said.

Venkat Reddy demanded that the government come out with a comprehensive educational policy, with details like number of government schools, grants given, number of staff and required amenities. The government should control exorbitant fees in private schools and should protect the educational sector from greedy private people, he added.
