The deterorating standards in the field of education in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are reaching its lowest ebb. The plight of Government schools and colleges is especially degenerating year after year both in quality and quantity. Many schools and junior colleges are getting closed down due to lack of students.

Government says that since students are not there we are not running the school; people say that since there are no teaching staffs we are not sending the wards to the government schools.

While the private educational institutions without proper facilities of infrastructure and quality teaching staff are crowded with students, government schools with trained teaching staff are not finding students. In spite of serving midday meals people are not attending the government schools.

The quality of education given in the government as well as in most of the private schools is very poor. Students writing the SSC or 10 the class examination are getting 9 grades out of 10 very easily and 90-100 percent pass percentage is being reported in the results and out of which most of the students are of first class and distinction.

Interestingly very few of these students who come out flying colours in examinations do not know how to write a leave letter on their own even in their mother tongue; no student is sure how to write from and to addresses on envelope.

Schools run under government are under pressure to show better progress compared to last year and student’s performance is linked to teacher’s promotion and transfers. District education officers and Mandal education officers are taking a ride on teachers to show growth.

Pupil who doesn’t have any need to perform till class 9th for promoting to next class are least bothered about their studies till class X.

How come suddenly expect them to become rankers in just one year? As its not possible teachers they are getting involved in mal practices to see that students are through in their examinations. Even valuation is going for a toss as you can see the marks of students securing cent percent even in languages.

Schools in private sector any way try their best to get ranks for their business development and manage every institution and examination centre to get full cooperation for achieving maximum marks. In one way we are not much behind Bihar in conducting examinations for the ‘benefit’ of students.

But this policy paralysis of government clubbed with unhealthy competition and corrupt examination practices meant for achieving just point score and volume achievement is jeopardising the child’s quality education.

Schools are becoming factories robots production. All students are identical and equal level of knowledge that is fixed in a frame. No teacher tries to teach out of box thinking and experimenting. No individual thought process is entertained in schools now days.

Is this the education we want to give for our next generation of this great nation? Are we trying to produce only book worms and corrupt minds? It’s time to wake up and correct the system of education and reset our quality standards of earlier ages where getting a first class percentage (60%) itself is a great achievement.

Let change examination pattern in such a way that at least 30 per cent of the examination questions dynamically student has to think and answer then and there and special weight age. Last but not the least one thing governments and as well as the private institutions have to keep in mind that Education is a matter of knowledge and wisdom but not product manufacturing.
