Bengaluru: Christ (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru in association with The Taj Group of Hotels conducted the Odyssey -2019 – a national level Hotel Ability Test(HAT) competition and Chef Competition recently.
The HAT Competition tests the ability of the students in various areas of a hotel and has five categories of competitions – General Manager, Tourism Management, Accommodation Management, Food and Beverage Management and Quiz. The Chef Competition had three rounds viz Choose your Colour ( where the colour Chosen has to be made the hero of the dish), The Great Indian Thali(Vegetarian) and The Future.
There were twelve top hotel Management colleges of India like the ATITHYA Pune, WGSHA, Manipal, WACA, Manipal, Auro University, Surat, Army College of Hotel Management, Shevroys College of Hotel Management etc who were battling for the Overall Championship and the Coveted Taj Chef Competition Rolling Trophy. It was a battle of nerves and only the best would be announced as the winner. This year was all the more special as Christ (Deemed to be University) is celebrating their Golden Jubilee year.
Team Brand Culinari Academy of India (CAI) was represented by Harsha Chabra, Deepanita,.Aksha Nair, Touseef Shamshuddin, Ujas Rane for the HAT competition and Priya Bothra &.Hari Bansh Pandey for the Chef Competition. Chef Akshay Kulkarni, HOD accompanied the team as the Team Manager. Two days of competition was very intense and the battle was neck- to - neck. Each team had to put in their best foot forward and there was no chance of an error. The students of Brand CAI outperformed the other colleges in every aspect.
Priya and Haribansh took the chef competition to a different level by virtue of their presentation and display of food. The first round had Black as their colour and they created a monochrome of Pomfret where every element was black in colour. No college could come with this theme. For the second round of The great Indian Thali , they made a Maharashtrian thali and the judges were highly impressed with the authenticity and the perfect natural Maharashtrian flavours the students could achieve. The third round The Future…Brand CAI nailed it as their concept was 35 years ahead of time. The team won with a very huge margin and left all the other colleges’ way behind.
The overall score of the Chef Competition and The HAT Competition also fetched the Overall Championship Trophy. Being the Golden Jubilee Year, the Grand Prize Distribution ceremony was held at the iconic Taj West End Hotel. Chef Narain Thimmaya , Chef Selaraju Executive Chefs with the Taj Hotels gave away the medals and the Huge Taj Rolling Trophy.
Winning this trophy is indeed very prestigious for the Students as the winners get easily placed with the TAJ Hotels in India. Brand CAI has been winning this trophy consecutively from the last many years and it is a prestige to have the Trophy back. Please find attached a few glimpses of the Competition attached.
