Beijing: Construction has begun on developing a park at the site of ancient humans ruins in China's Tibet, local authorities said on Friday.

The Karub Ruins Park, located in Qamdo city, will allow visitors to learn about the plateau's prehistoric civilisation, Xinhua news agency quoted Yungzhung Dawa, head of the city's cultural heritage bureau, as saying.

With a total investment of $18.8 million, the project will replicate scenes from the lives of Tibetans' ancestors from 4,000 to 5,000 years ago.

The first phase of the project includes an exhibition hall where pictures of the ruins of ancient houses will be displayed.

The Karub ruins were found in 1977 and put under state protection in 1996. Three excavations have been conducted on an area covering 3,040 sq. metres of ruins since their discovery.
