Cool scarves for hot summers

Head scarves, the traditional hijab worn by Muslim women has ceased to be a simple piece of cloth. We find newer designs launched with each season and for all occasions. There are also many online stores selling a wide variety of scarves.

The tradition of wearing a head scarf continues to be observed with reverence amongst Muslim women and they carefully choose it to match the dressing and accessories and the occasion, be it a family get together, to attend college or an official meeting, to attend a marriage or for regular wear. Gone are the days when it was just a trip to the Middle East that ensured some exquisite designs made of silk and such other fabrics that could be bought from the Arabian markets, especially Dubai etc.,

Today many local stores are storing amazing array of scarves in beautiful designs and fabrics. “With changing times and fashion, scarves have undergone dramatic changes from colour, style, fabric depending on personal choice and seasonal requirement. You can go for satin, silk, chiffon and cotton scarves depending on the affordability and liking. Designer scarves are also in vogue,” says Naseemunissa, House wife, Tolichowki.

Embroidery, beads work, real gem stones, pearls and crystal work are used to embellish scarves that are worn on important occasions while the casual scarves are usually preferred to be simple and soft. “I carry scarves based on the occasion. For parties, I opt for trendy and jazzy scarves and I keep it simple when it comes to a professional event. Sometimes I match it with the colour of my outfit or use the one in contrast colour. For example, plain scarves look great on printed outfit and the printed scarf will go well with plain garments,” says Kahekashan from Bowenpally, who works as a stock trader.

“Now a days, we have scarves in eye-catching prints and there are plain scarves in trending fashion shades too. Scarves add finishing touch to your style,” says Farheen Fathima from Yakutpura. The best option for summer is to go for light colours and lighter shades and the fabric should be soft and comfortable,” she adds.

There is a huge collection of designs available on internet which makes you go gaga over choice. A little searching around and one can get their hands on gorgeous-looking scarves. “Scarves are becoming so trendy that one can get it online too on E-bay and other sites. In Hyderabad, one can buy from Shahran Market, Charminar (the area has many stores that sell scarves), Hijab store in Tolichowki and also at Sona collections in Abids. “But many prefer to go to Shahran Market, as one can get many varieties and there a good choice of store,”” says Sabiya Begam, a student from Mehdipatnam .
