AICC President Sonia allots three tickets to TJACHyderabad: The Congress high command on Tuesday took up damage control exercise by making changes to the list of names it had announced for the Assembly seats in Telangana. The party came in for sharp criticism from both within and from the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (TJAC) leaders for having announced its decision to give three seats to them, but later it took a U-turn. The high command took this decision after the TJAC members Gajjala Kantam, Addanki Dayakar and Katti Venkatswamy met AICC president Sonia Gandhi and presented their case.

Following this, the high command swung into action. Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel called up TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah and asked him to withhold issue of B forms for Secunderabad Cantonment, Tungaturti and Narsampet constituencies. Later, it was announced that these three seats would be given to Gajjalakantam, Addanki Dayakar and Katti Venkatswamy respectively.

Gajjela Katham will replace Krishank in Secunderabad Cantonment (SC) while Addaki Dayakar will replace Gudipati Narasaiah and Katti Venkataswamy replace Donti Mandhav Reddy in Narsampet in Warangal district. Venkatswamy said Sonia has also assured the TJAC leaders that some more leaders will be accommodated in the Legislative Council later.

Donti’s candidature was supported by the union minister Balaram Naik. The minister rushed to the house of Ponnala and told him that change of candidate could cause problems for him. But the TPCC president told him that they would have follow the decision of the high command. The Congress high command is also said to have spoken to the union minister and convinced him on the need to accommodate the TJAC leaders.

Meanwhile, followers of Kollapur Congress leader Vishnuvardhan Reddy and Jedcherla leader Ramesh staged a dharna at Gandhi Bhavan, opposing tickets to Harshavardhan Reddy and Mallu Ravi respectively. Cantonment sitting MLA P Shankar Rao and Pinapaka MLA Rega Kantha Rao were also critical of PCC president Ponnala for dropping their names from the party list of candidates. Speaking to the media Shankar Rao alleged that Ponnala and KVP Ramachandra Rao conspired against him for having fought against corruption.
