Modi: I am a married man

Vadodara: BJP's PM nominee Narendra Modi has for the first time declared himself as a married man by revealing his wife's name as Jashodaben in an affidavit filed before the Election Commission. In an affidavit submitted along with his nomination papers filed on Wednesday for Vadodara Lok Sabha seat, the 63-year-old Gujarat Chief Minister stated that he is married. So far, Modi used to leave the column of spouse which is to be filled in an affidavit as blank. He kept the column blank in 2012 Assembly elections as well. However, for the 2014 Lok Sabha election affidavit, in the column where he has to declare assets in the name of his wife, Modi said he had no information. Modi’s brother Somabhai Damodardas clarified Modi was married to Jashodaben over 45 years back when he was a minor and the family was poor and uneducated. Modi had 'given up family for the country's service,' he said, and urged voters not to judge Modi on the basis of his past. Twitterati exploded with comments. One said “isn't it enough reason to disqualify #Modi from the current office? He said no wife in assembly and now accepted the wife for loksabha”
