Andhra people are safe here: Shashidhar. The sweltering heat could not dissuade residents of Brahmanwadi from waiting for the energetic 65-year-old Congress candidate from Sanatnagar Assembly constituency, Marri Shashidhar Reddy.
The sweltering heat could not dissuade residents of Brahmanwadi from waiting for the energetic 65-year-old Congress candidate from Sanatnagar Assembly constituency, Marri Shashidhar Reddy.
Reddy, made his way around the small settlement, greeting voters with folded hands and a smile on his face.
Even as he approached some households, residents themselves assured him of their votes. Speaking in chaste Telugu, Hindi and English, he greets the aged and the young during his tour of the constituency the smile intact. He also took time to speak to Lata Jain.
Excerpts from the interview:
You have won the last two polls. But this time there are two strong contenders, Talasani Srinivas Yadav (TDP), a three-time legislator from Secunderabad and former minister and TRS candidate Dande Vithal. What will be the result?
The result will be the same as that of the last two elections. I will win with a good majority. Sanatnagar is like my home, my family. People in this area call me even for a small problem of drainage and I take steps to attend to their needs. I am committed to overall development and people will vote me to power.
As NDMA chairman you have always been shuttling between Hyderabad and New Delhi. How do you think you can attend to the welfare of your constituency?
A person need not be available physically to attend a cause. Communication facilitates connectivity and this helps in attending to the needs of the constituency. Prime Minister sits in the Centre, but does he not attend to all the States?
There are several complaints from slums of Padmarao Nagar, Balkampet. Roads are in a bad shape and civic amenities are deplorable. We did take up a lot of work. The Telangana issue was a setback to our work but once elected, I shall first attend to these pending works.
You have supported the Telangana cause, but there are more than 40 per cent Andhrites in your constituency. Will they support you?
Telangana is carved and people from Andhra feel insecure now. We will protect Andhrites. I plan to set up a helpline were I, with the help of police, will protect them. Every kind of benefit and protection will be given to Andhrites who contribute to growth and education of the city and State irrespective of caste or creed.
