Hyderabad: All India Majilis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) party has retained all the seven Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat it had won in the 2009 elections. While party president Asaduddin Owaisi won Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat for the third consecutive term, his brother Akbaruddin Owaisi won Chandrayangutta Assembly seat for the fourth consecutive term.

The other seats were Charminar, Karwan, Malakpet, Bahadurpura, Nampally and Yakutpura. Asaduddin defeated his closest rival Dr Bhagavanth Rao (BJP) with a margin of over 1,97,000 votes. It is the eighth time the party winning the Hyderabad seat. His brother Akbaruddin defeated his nearest rival Dr Khayam Khan by a margin of 53,700 votes in Chandrayangutta.

Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala won from Malakpet by defeating his nearest rival B Venkat Reddy of BJP with a margin of more than 24,000 votes. Maozam Khan won from Bahadurpura with a majority of over 95,000 votes. Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri retained the Charminar seat for the third consecutive term and won the elections with a margin of more than 36,000 votes. Similarly, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan has also registered a comfortable victory in Yakutpura with a margin of 38,000. He retained the seat for the fifth consecutive term, even though MBT candidate Majeedullah Khan Farhat gave him a tough fight. Jaffer Hussain Meraj, who contested for the Assembly for the first time from Nampally, defeated Feroz Khan of TDP with a majority of 19,000 votes. MIM also retained the Karwan seat, where another new candidate Kausar Mohiuddin defeated BJP leader Baddam Bal Reddy with a margin of over 18,000 votes.
