Preetika Rao is playing the girl next door Aaliya in the newly launched show ‘Beintehaa’ on Colors. In real life too, Preetika comes across as a no-nonsense simple girl who is all out to charm the audience with her acting skills.
Preetika who is a known model has to her credit a Tamil (‘Chikku Bukku’) and Telugu (‘Priyudu’) film and is also known to be a journalist since she had a column in a leading magazine apart from contributing to couple of newspapers too. Ask her why she choose coming to television and particularly this role as such and she gives a sweet smile as she says, “Television is something new for me but I am always open to challenges and wanted to take up something new and inspiring. I have always said that I did not chose to do films down South and would have done Hindi films too but South chose me and the same way, television came my way and I accepted it.
Television gives a lot of exposure for any actor since it is a mass medium. I was selected for couple of other shows too but when I heard the narration of ‘Beintehaa’ I liked the story and the fact that my character as the main protagonist is very strong and modern too. The fact that it will be airing on prime time on the popular channel Colors was another added attraction.”
Talking more about her character Aaliya in the show, she says, “The show has which revolves around two Muslim families is set in a traditional set up but has a modern look to it as well and my character is shown to be a perfect blend of traditional and modern. She is a bit tomboyish but is stays true to her roots too.”
‘Beintehaa’ has been on air for around two weeks now and Preetika has been getting appreciation from all, “I was always confident that everyone especially the Muslim community will like the show.” No wonder she is being liked by all, the pretty actress resembles her popular sister Amrita Rao when it comes to looks. Tell her that and she blushes, “It feels nice when people say that we resemble each other. We are quite close to each other and share a special bond as sisters. She is always happy for me and encourages me in the work I am doing. Looking at her career I have learned a lot from the industry. She has achieved so much as an actor… she is my inspiration.”
While the actress who is new to the workings of TV as a medium was ready to take up a fiction show she is as yet not ready for anything else on TV and a reality show is totally out of question, “I am a very private person and will not be comfortable showing my personal side on national television so as of now I will not be okay to do a reality show. As compared to films, I find working for television is very taxing. I have worked round the clock when we were shooting initially and even now since I am the main lead I have to give my best in terms of time and effort.”
Preetika comes across as one pretty face who is one rare combination of beauty and brains and we hope she maintains her balance during her stint in Indian television too.
