There are several certified diving points in Havelock to introduce you to the wonderful and beautiful world of marine-life! The abundance of marine life can be enjoyed at the various diving sites such as ‘Seduction point’ with its stag-horn coral, the Aquarium, a hard and fringing coral with lots of fish and the Lighthouse with both hard and soft corals. The sites are also suitable for dives during the night, when day-time creatures rest and nocturnal creatures such as lobsters, squid and stingray come out of their hiding places. Havelock islands are surrounded by emerald lagoons and is covered with tropical evergreen forests. Bird enthusiasts can spot the white mynas or the wood peckers with a white barred black mantle and the red crown.
The Vijaynagar beach and the Elephant beach deserve a special mention. Vijaynagar is a long stretch of sand on the east coast and is lined by large Mahua trees that lend distinct quality to this beautiful beach. Government ferries run by the Directorate of Shipping Services connect Phoenix Bay Jetty, Port Blair to Havelock, twice daily. Boat tickets from Port Blair to Havelock and return journey can be purchased four days in advance from STARS (ship ticket reservation system) run by the Directorate of Shipping Services. Regular passenger ships and two-hour flights are available from Kolkata, Chennai, and Visakhapatnam to Port Blair. Stay options at Havelock range from high-end resorts to camping sites on the beaches. The Tourism Information Centre at Port Blair provides all the necessary information. Auto rickshaws, taxis, buses and motorbikes are available for transport within the island.
