‘Atirudra Sahita Ayutha Chandi Yagam’, a huge draw

Vedic chants were reverberated at NTR Stadium, the venue has been playing host to ‘Atirudra Sahita Ayutha Chandi Yagam’. The 12-day ritual which started on February 12 has been organised by Swamy Paripoornananda, a seer of Sri Peetham. The Yagna would conclude on February 24.

Noted Vedic pandit Yanamandra Venugopala Sastry and his team of 225 priests have been conducting this ritualistic spectacle. The ritual has been attracting people in large numbers.

For the Yagna, 225 priests were handpicked by the chief priest from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The conclave of priests has been chanting ‘Chandi Parayana’ five times a day, and would continue for 12 days to reach the 12,000 recital mark.

Apart from the ‘Chandi Parayanam’ and ‘Homam,’ the priests have been performing ‘Rudra Japam’, ‘Rudrabhishekam’, ‘Ganapati Homam’, ‘Surya Namaskaram’ and ‘Lalita Sahasranama Parayana’ followed by ‘Kumkumarchana’.

“I have been delivering the discourse on ‘Lalitha Sahasranama Stotram’ for past two years. What better way to culminate the discourse, than performing the one of its kind Yagna. This has been the second time in the history that this sort of Yagna has been performed,” informed Swamy Paripoornanda. The Swamy said that the Yagna was being performed for the greater good.

The Yagna is performed in a specially built ‘Yagna Shala’, which was divided into four concentric squares. Priests in the outer most square performed ‘Chandi Parayana’ and ‘Chandi Yaagam’, priests in the second square performed ‘Rudra Japam’ and ‘Rudrabhishekam’, priests in the third square performed ‘Sudarsana Japam’. The inner most square adorned by the chief priest performed the ‘Sri Yantra Puja’.

As the part of the Yagna, 1000 women participate in the ‘Kunkumarchana’, every day. “The day starts with ‘Ganapati Homam’, ‘Nitya Navaavarnarchana’ and other rituals. We have been making arrangements from November 2013; Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam officials have given miniature idols of the Goddess. Everyone has contributed to make this ritual a huge success,” said Krishna Rao, one of the organisers and the former director of Doordarshan.
