Seats For Kith and Kin. “I would be changing my constituency and would contest from somewhere else. I want a ticket for my daughter for the constituency I am going to vacate,” was what a senior Congress leader from the city conveyed to his party high command.
It’s all in the family for many MLAs
“I would be changing my constituency and would contest from somewhere else. I want a ticket for my daughter for the constituency I am going to vacate,” was what a senior Congress leader from the city conveyed to his party high command.
‘The state has been divided, a separate Telangana state has been declared and there is an overwhelming ‘T’ wave. This is the right time to launch political careers for our kith and kin,’ has more or less been the thought process of the majority of Congress’ sitting MLAs and MPs, who are lobbying for themselves as well as their successors (brothers, sons and daughters).
This lobbying has put the commandants at Gandhi Bhavan under undue duress. Sources state that bigwigs in the party are worried that tickets might be offered only to sitting MLAs and their kin at other constituencies. This lobbying has created an uneasy atmosphere at the party camp.
Former minister and sitting MLA of Goshamahal, Mukesh Goud, is lobbying hard for a ticket for his son Vikram Goud from Musheerabad. Musheerabad’s sitting MLA Manemma is unlikely to contest because of her age. Vikram Goud was the president of Water Works Employees Union. Meanwhile, Secunderabad MP Anjan Kumar Yadav is also vying the Musheerabad ticket for his son Anil Kumar Yadav. Sources say that if one gets the ticket, the other would be offended.
At Cantonment, the incumbent MLA P Sankara Rao reportedly stated that he would contest from Shadnagar and is allegedly lobbying for his daughter Sushmita to contest from the Cantonment seat. Former home minister Sabitha Indra Reddy is planning to contest from Rajendranagar instead of Maheshwaram. She is lobbying hard for a ticket for her son Karthik Reddy either from Chevella or from the Malkajgiri Parliamentary constituency. It should be noted that Karthik Reddy undertook a padayatra for Telangana earlier.
Gandhi Bhavan’s grapevine suggests that Uppal MLA Bandari Raji Reddy too has asked the high command to give a ticket to his brother Lakshma Reddy, as he has cited old age against contesting for elections.
