Plastic has become an indispensable part of our lives. We use plastic despite knowing its perils. To expedite the death of this old habit among children, Jagisa Packaging Industry has come up with innovative ideas.

The industry which produces paper bags has started facilitating visits to their factory located in Dhulapally village for school children, in order to reach out to the young ones in the society for inculcation of environment-friendly and healthy ideas in the young minds, believing that catching the imagination of young minds will have a very sustained and lifelong change in perception and lifestyles.

This industrial visit enables children to see the procedure behind the manufacture of paper bags from kraft paper, which in turn is recycled from raw material. A total of 3,835 students have visited the industry so far.

The industry conducts lectures and interactive sessions to create awareness about perils of plastic and benefits of using cloth or paper bag and to explain the concept of the 3Rs: Reduce, Recycle and Reuse.

Yamini Koganti, CEO, Jagisa industry, said, “The programme has been extremely successful and the feedback we received from the parents and school authorities has been very encouraging. We thank the Rotary Club of Greater Hyderabad, which has been giving us a constant support.”

Students of Oakridge International School expressed great excitement on their visit to the industry. “It was interesting to learn how to make bags with newspaper,” said Lalit, a grade 3 student.

“It was good to make eco-friendly bags,” said Vijay of the same class.
