The alumni association and students of VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology will take out a peace walk on June 21 at 6pm. The march will be held from Necklace Road to Jal Vihar in remembrance of the lives that were lost in the Beas tragedy.

The organisers noted that the walk is only to offer condolences and pray for the lives of those who are still missing and not to condemn anyone. "We have no intentions of protesting against the government or the people behind this incident," said Pavan Kumar, one of the hosts of the event and a VNR student himself.

An estimated 6,000-7,000 people are expected to attend the event including the survivors and parents who lost their children. The necessary police permissions have been taken. "We will also have a post walk discussion about the action to be taken by the government and we plan to escalate the issue to the PMO," Sri Vishnu, who is hosting the walk along with Pavan Kumar.
