As part of precautionary measures to minimise the loss of life and property during natural disasters, a 33-member team of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) held mock drills at Nawab Shah Alam Khan Engineering College, Malakpet, on Friday.

The demo was performed using day-to-day objects like empty plastic water bottles, coconuts, empty plastic tins of oil, old volley balls, and old iron cans. They illustrated various rescue operations on how could a person save him/herself from drowning, using these common commodities. During the demo, not only did the NDRF display the equipment and boats used during the combing operation post the Beas tragedy but also taught the attendees how to use them. The team also detailed the students about the various rescue operations and many precautionary measures that have to be taken when an earthquake is predicted or occurred.
