Geetanjali Mishra in 'Rangrasiya'.Geetanjali Mishra never aspired to be an actress but it was destined to be when she was called by noted director Seema Sharma to do a role which bloomed into a big one and one thing led to another. From her first show ‘Piya ka Ghar’ to ‘Rangrasiya’ it was just a matter of time for this girl with beautiful looks and talent to make a place for herself in this field.

Sounding confident as a known name today Geetanjali says, “I guess it was all destined for me... otherwise I was totally new to the glamour world and never aspired for all this.”

Even now she likes to go slow and easy with doing just one show ‘Rangrasiya’. Seen as the meek and submissive Maithili in the show it is a complete turnaround from her image of an actress going bold in various episodes of ‘Crime Patrol’. Ask her about this and she confesses, “Yes it was a conscious decision to take up a positive role in ‘Rangrasiya’ since I had done a lot of bold and negative roles. I wanted to break that image and also feel that after doing negative for long it affects your personality in the long run. I think I am a realistic actor and for me it is important to feel the character I am playing otherwise I will not be able to deliver a good performance. Without conviction realism khatam ho jaata hai. So, I felt as though negativity was slowly seeping in through me and I was being like my on screen persona which was scary so when the soft, positive character of Maithili came up I took it up.” Having done that one wonders whether it was a right decision cause her role is not going anywhere in the show. As a viewer one feels she is capable of doing much more if her character is given due importance. Geetanjali herself acknowledges this as she says, “It is the minus point in Indian Television that a show starts with a certain vision but later the feedback and TRPs rule where it will lead to due to which the story and characters too change the way they progress and as an actor we are helpless if it looks completely different from what it was meant to be originally.”

Geetanjali has no regrets however and is moving ahead at a steady pace in her career. No wonder her charming looks have got her tempting offers in Television as well as Films, “Yes I have been offered main leads on major production houses earlier too but something or the other did not work out. Either I was busy or the role was not good enough or the contract terms were not agreeable. And when it comes to films I am not really interested since I feel Television has lots of scope for an actor to portray a variety of characters as well as reach out to a huge number of audiences. I can be a bahu, beti, play a positive or negative character and reach people right in their homes whereas in a film your audience has to go out, buy a ticket to watch a film.”

“Currently I am happy with TV so films can wait till I get a good role with good people to work with. Actually I think with my feminine looks I will do well in films down South. I will fit into the frame of Tamil or Telugu films but I am confused due to lack of guidance so let me just wait and see what happens next.”

And what would be her dream role? Does she have something in mind? “I want to do a role which will be remembered long after the show is over and it doesn't matter if it is positive or negative. I have always admired Saakshi Tanwar as an actress and loved her as Parvati. Other characters I remember are of Tulsi, Ramola Sikcand or Komolika... They have been roles which have left an impression on the minds of the audience and that is what even I aspire to do.”

Till then Geetanjali has decided to reinvent herself in a new avatar on Television as she reveals, “You might soon see me in a comic avatar which is a character with a North Indian flavor to it... A new genre for me again and I am looking forward to it.”And for all her fans of Crime Patrol she shares, “I am called for almost every story of ‘Crime Patrol’ but due to my commitments it is difficult to give them time but once I am free I would love to do them again,” concludes the talented actress.
