Brand Hyderabad is once again in the reckoning with the restoration of political stability, recouping its old world charm with the mosaic of new world glitz. While resurgent IT, ITES, pharma, bio technology, medical tourism and education sectors are once again dazzling in the glory of attaining greater heights, Telangana Tourism, in association with IT & ITES department and industries department, government of Telangana, have taken a quantum leap by launching the ‘Happening Hyderabad’ campaign on Thursday.

The campaign would create a history of sorts by galvanising luminaries from the field of arts, culture, sports and entrepreneurship to enhance community engagement and interaction. The campaign would resurrect the image of ‘Brand Hyderabad’ and strengthen the ‘event industry’ through a series of events planned across the year as part of an annual calendar of events with the support of the state government.

IT and Panchayat Raj minister KT Rama Rao, inaugurating the campaign, underlined the key ingredients of Brand Hyderabad to make it a perfect place for the growth and investment of IT, ITES and the industry at large and the need for its comprehensive integration with the tourism and the event industry.

“We need a city with more leisure and lifestyle events to attract quality talent to step up our human resource and therefore the rationale of launching the ‘Happening Hyderabad’ campaign. It’s a campaign which is designed to draw the glitterati to be part of a phenomenon that would transform the face of Hyderabad as a happening destination,” he said.

“So with the departments of IT and tourism, we are creating an event-a-week concept for 52 weeks. This would create the milieu of a culturally vibrant city. We would host events related to arts, culture, sports, hobby and entrepreneurship. We want to make this a mass movement with the participation of people. Let’s all work together to make Hyderabad a truly global city with a judicious blend of culture and sports,” KTR elaborated.

Talking about what’s in store, the IT minister informed the gathering about the hanging bridge that would be coming up over Durgam Chervu connecting Inorbit Mall and also about the cycling track along the ORR.

Introducing the campaign, BP Acharya, principal secretary, planning and tourism, said, “This is an initiative to showcase Hyderabad as a happening city globally and provide a platform for quality entertainment to the residents and visitors.

Through this initiative, we would create maximum visibility and outreach for the events and support city’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing, Exhibitions (MICE) and the event industry. MICE industry is a growing sector only if we are to grab our share with the requisite facilities in place.”

Jayesh Ranjan, VC and MD, Telangana State Industrial Corporation, said, “Activities have been planned throughout the year to keep Hyderabad in centre stage of activities.”

The launch was followed by the unveiling of ‘Happening Hyderabad’ logo and launch of the web portal by the minister. The annual events calendar was released by Jagdish Mittal, an art collector and art historian. The mobile application for the campaign was launched by ace badminton player Pullela Gopichand.

Famous theatre personality and Padmashree awardee Mohammad Ali Baig, said, “We live in the oldest city of the world the basis of which is art and culture. It was the first city which was the citadel of power at the same time active as the performing art centre.”

Giving details of the Qadir Ali Baig festival, which has become an integral part of city’s annual event calendar, Baig said, “Like in the past few years, this year too the festival would be held in November. The festival has come to be regarded as one of the four large assemblies of theatre artists in the sub continent.”

City’s eminent personalities from the field of sports, arts and culture and theatre were present on the occasion. The contest for ‘Happening Hyderabad’ logo and the tag line was also announced on the occasion. The campaign would kick start on August 15 with the ‘Freedom Ride’ in the morning at the Gachibowli Stadium, followed by the ‘Vintage Car & Bike Rally’ in the afternoon at Lumbini Park parking lot and a fashion show being organised at Shilpa Kala Vedika in the evening.

The ‘Happening Hyderabad’ campaign is an ‘Ident CITY’ (a destination brand and marketing company with a primary goal of strengthening event industry) initiative. Events Now, a technology partner has designed the web portal, annual calendar and mobile app.
