The second edition of Comic Con Hyderabad took off from where it ended the last time. The anticipation, excitement and the frenzy of comic enthusiasts was palpable -- a good couple of hours before the launch of the event. As estimated, 2,000 comic book fans thronged the HICC, Madhapur, to catch all the action and take part in three days of unadulterated fun.

Unlike the previous edition, this year saw increased participation from city-based companies and people. The main attraction on day one was a superhero weapon replica stall. Thor’s Mjolnir (hammer), Conan’s swords and replicas of guns etc. attracted a steady footfall. Not only were the people posing with it, but were buying it too.

Events kicked off with the EA Sports team describing what goes on behind the making of the much loved action games. The audience lapped up the pop quiz and were more than happy to collect EA games which were offered as goodies for those who gave the right answers.

Renowned comic book writer Ron Marz who is the creator of comics like Green Lantern, Silver Surfer etc, graced the event and autographed books and posters. Also present were noted international comic writers like Nathan Edmundson (‘Who is Jake Ellis?’ fame) and Vivek Tiwary (‘The Fifth Beatle’, graphic novel fame).

The organisers promised that the three-day event would be one-of-its-kind interactive session offering 40 hours of unlimited fun. Speaking on the occasion, Jatin Varma, founder, Comic Con India, said, “We are extremely happy by the response we are getting here. We are pleased to be in the city of Nizams and the love and affection we are receiving is overwhelming.”

Cosplayers, who were in as early as 11 am, entertained the audience with their interpretation of renowned movie and comic book characters. Ronit who was dressed as Batman attracted much attention and people flocked to take pictures and selfies with Batman and Joker (Siddharth) together.

Increased presence of international content was a highlight at the convention. Anime & Manga Merch was brought in by Japanese merchandiser IINE Toys. Also, the best and most exclusive international books and merchandise from IDW Publishing, Oni Press, Image Comics and Tonyk Toys from across the globe are being showcased at the stalls. Indian Merchandise is a great hit too. There are exclusive Indian merchandisers including Kook N Keech by Myntra, Wacom, Collectors Heritage, Hysteria, Chumbak, Chimp, Planet Superheroes, Lazy Ninja and lots more. Atma Studios launched their brand ‘Lat Lakar’ along with its merchandise and Tinkle launched Tinkle character wobble heads.

There were interesting sessions like ‘The Robots of Dharma’ by Syenagiri Studios and Live Concept Art Demonstration by Rahul Philip.

For the first time ever, Comic Con India organised a special short comedy play, ‘SuperLosers - When superheroes go through mid-life crisis’ for fans on day one.
