The bullet was stuck in between his brain and medulla oblongata. He was admitted to Care Hospital where the doctors suggested that if the bullet was removed, it might damage his brain leading to loss of vision and memory. After running around city hospitals unsuccessfully, Rajendra Prasad was finally treated at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences in Bengaluru in January 2013.

After the operation, the doctors advised Rajendra Prasad to not ride a motor bike, climb steps or to swim as it would deteriorate his health. The constable who had been on sick leave for a long duration, amazingly joined the force a couple of months ago. He has been discharging his duties despite losing 68 per cent of his vision in the right eye and 60 per cent of his vision in the left eye. He is also suffering from brain haemorrhage.

Rajendra Prasad is being supported by his wife Dhana Laxmi who left her job in a private hospital to take care of him. The couple have two children Abinav and Chandrika aged 11 and 9 respectively. However the family is constantly worried about their future.
