Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) undertook the bettering of infrastructure and computer education in government schools as the main activities under CSR.

ECIL adopted 17 government schools in the surrounding areas and constructed several class rooms, multi-purpose halls, computer labs, toilets and supplied large number of dual desks and benches in the schools in the last three years. The company spent Rs 163.92 lakh during 2013-14 and has allocated funds of Rs 360.35 lakh for 2014-15 towards CSR and sustainability initiatives for which the activities are in progress.

The company constructed separate toilet blocks for boys and girls, a computer lab and other civil works at Zilla Parishad High School, Kapra, at an expenditure of around Rs 13 lakh, and, also, in Mandal Parishad Primary School, Yellareddyguda, at a cost of around Rs 7.5 lakh.

At a function held at schools on Thursday, P Sudhakar, C&MD, ECIL, inaugurated and handed over the above facilities to the respective school managements in the presence of the chief guest, Uppal MLA NVSS Prabhakar; MLC K Janardhan Reddy; director (finance) Kishor Rungta; director (personnel) VSB Babu; GHMC corporator (Kapra division) K Rama Rao and others.

NVSS Prabhakar appreciated the CSR activities of ECIL, particularly that of computer education. He said, “Students in government schools have a lot of potential. With proper infrastructure and teaching, they would fare equally well with students of Corporate Schools. They also should participate in cultural and sports activities.”

He advised teachers to explore various methods to improve the attendance and success of the students.
