Twenty five major cases of atrocities against dalit adivasi women and girl children are pending in Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts. This came to light in a round table conference held at the Press Club in the city on Saturday.

Twenty five major cases of atrocities against dalit adivasi women and girl children are pending in Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts. This came to light in a round table conference held at the Press Club in the city on Saturday.

The cases were presented before the officials of different departments such as police, social welfare and judiciary. The victims and witnesses narrated their problems. In response, the social welfare department officials assured the victims that compensation would be provided and that payment would not be delayed in the future.

Srinivas Reddy, DCP, crime, mentioned that the responsibility of eradicating such incidents is on every person in the society. The speakers felt that illiteracy among people was the main cause for exploitation and for opportunity to attain justice. In response of these cases officials said they would recheck and act accordingly.

Daniel Vijay Prakash, programme manager, DSS, explained the loop holes in the law. Jhansi Geddam drew the attention of officials to the loopholes in departments. She said that compensation was delayed and victims were not rehabilitated. She demanded that special officers be posted to look into the pending cases.

Dalit Sthree Sakthi State Women Collective members Kavitha, Kalpana, Anitha, Radha, Swapna and Vennela Hyderabad co-ordinator participated in the meeting.
