Honouring Talent. Senior mridanga vidwan Vankayala Narasimham (83), a resident of Vizianagaram, will be felicitated and conferred with the title ‘Sangeetha Kalasagara’ by Kalasagarm on the occasion of 47th Annual Cultural Festival at Keyes High School.

Senior mridanga vidwan Vankayala Narasimham (83), a resident of Vizianagaram, will be felicitated and conferred with the title ‘Sangeetha Kalasagara’ by Kalasagarm on the occasion of 47th Annual Cultural Festival at Keyes High School.

Born in Vizianagaram on November 13, 1931, a science graduate, having B. Ed to his credit, Narasimham worked as a science teacher for twenty-two years. Later he joined the All India Radio (AIR), Visakhapatnam, as a staff artist and retired in 1991. During his time in AIR he brought many krithis of unknown Vaggeyakaras to the limelight and broadcast them. He was then appointed as the principal of Gudilova Vignana Vihar Institution for two decades. He trained hundreds of students, all the way from Nagaland and down south to Kerala. Amongst his foremost disciples Pathri Satish Kumar and his son Vankayala Venkata Ramana Murthy are world famous mridanga vidwans.
