GHMC Doesn’t Clean Its Own Toilets. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) apparently gives a damn to swearing by cleanliness at its premises.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) apparently gives a damn to swearing by cleanliness at its premises. The civic body, which conceptualized innovative ‘green’ measures like Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) toilets, bio toilets, perhaps has to first concentrate on the upkeep of toilets at its head office. The toilets in every floor are abysmal. The complaints by its own employees seem to mirror the common man’s condemnation
“Toilets here stink and terribly nauseating. It is difficult to even pass through the area,” claims Prasad (name changed), an employee of the GHMC. He points out that the pathetic situation was brought to the notice of the higher ups but to no avail.
“We raised this issue when Commissioner Somesh Kumar assumed office in October 2013. He himself had asked the employees to raise these issues. When the Commissioner ordered blueprints of a star hotel, we presumed that he was planning to refurbish the office premises. Alas, to our dismay, he only had the toilets in his office redone” the irked employee added.
Vinod (name changed) says that they prefer to use public conveniences or the green toilets that were launched recently and can be found within walking distance from the Corporation.
“The toilets aren’t clean. There aren’t any buckets in many of the cubicles and pipes for urinals are missing,” Vinod points out.
“These are not isolated instances. This sorry state prevails in all the six floors, which are made dirtier by pan-spitting along the stairway and on the walls that are hardly cleaned. It’s really annoying!” exclaims Azhar (name changed).
“We are actually happy that we slog day in and day out to keep the city clean but our own house is a sham,” laments Azhar.
“Even though the issue was highlighted many times, it did not have any impact. There is no use of complaining to anyone. There are many leaders who take up the issue and raise their voices and then go into a shell oblivious of the discomfort,” explains Kumar, adding that civic sense is far-cry for the GHMC.
