Prof. Rao said that public policies are the key for the development of a country and promotes the wellbeing of the people if the policy formulates the policies with a vision. “As said by Jawaharlal Nehru, a public policy is a dynamic instrument to alter the poor economy. The essence of this statement is the policies and decisions of the government can determine the fate of the country. The policy maker should have the vision to devise goal-oriented actions, like Nehru. With a long period vision Nehru established many iron-ore factories, irrigation projects, roads and transports, government institutions, etc., which have been giving fruitful results today in the economic development of the country,” he said.

“The policies of the country decide not only the past but also the future. Our leaders in the past have made policies with a vision, but today our leaders are formulating policies to usher in votes for the sake of winning the elections. This creates an economic burden on the government. That is why the budget size also has been increasing year by year,” Prof. Rao added.

In his concluding remarks he said that leaders should bear in mind the future of the country, welfare of the people, mobilisation and availability of resources and formulate rational policies.
