Born as a wing of the Art of Living, Volunteer for Better India (VBI) has brought many youngsters in Vijayawada together to usher in a social change. The group focuses on compulsory primary education, de-addiction, girl child protection, women’s safety, senior citizens’ welfare, good governance, preservation of ecological balance and other relevant issues.

The team of 18 volunteers, collected 100 kg of rice and 49 kg of dal for the inmates of Mamata Orphanage towards one month ration. They mobilised Rs 3,000 by selling old newspapers to meet the stationery expenses of the children of Satya Sai Orphanage.

Go Green, was another awareness drive taken up by the members to protect the environment. They held rallies in the city to promote awareness among people about road safety, voter enrolment and other social issues. Conduct of medical camps and blood donation camps and cleanliness drives in residential areas and public places are some of the other activities of the VBI.

Speaking about their organisation, R Sai Gupta, a volunteer who is constantly monitoring the VBI social networking page, said, “We are committed to striving for a better society. I hope our initiative will certainly inspire youngsters and make them aware of their social responsibility. Our aim is to make people socially conscious citizens.’’
