Rural workforce needs training: Jayadev

Guntur MP Galla Jayadev on Friday stated that Andhra Pradesh required skilled workforce and to train large number of workforce in job skills, a portion of the MGNREGA funds should be spent on the rural work force to develop their skills. “India needs 20 crore skilled tradesmen for the next decade and unless steps are taken on a war footing, India will stand to lose. India occupies 108th place in finding skilled professionals and tradesmen in the world and the need of the hour is to impart skill development training to multiple tradesmen. India should be in the top 15 in skill development in the world,” he said.

Jayadev announced that his Amar Raja Group, under its Corporate Social Responsibility, will be setting up a skill development training programme at Chittoor and Thullur for training work force necessary for the new capital.

Commenting on a report that the Thullur black cotton soil fields are not fit for building skyscrapers, he retorted, “When Singapore has the technology to build edifices on oceans, why cannot we do that on black soil? It is all a matter of technology utilisation.”

When it was pointed out that corruption was now the order of the day in the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC), he replied, “Why point out only GMC? It is everywhere. As long as people are not decently paid, corruption would remain. Politicians in Singapore are the highest paid. They draw more salaries than bureaucrats and they are said to be corruption-free. In India, journalists, police and similar other professionals are paid less. Such an environment provides breeding ground for corruption.”

Jayadev said that he believed in hard work and had started working from the age of 10 as a paper boy, a restaurant worker and so on and came up the hard way. He stated that he also believed in doing quality work on the political front as a people's representative. “It is not how long you spend in your constituency but how much you do for the people is all that matters. My vision is to work for the establishment of a world class capital city by working with the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu,” he said.
