Toyota has very silently launched the smaller 2.5L engine in the Fortuner lineup. Speculations of the introduction of this engine on the brawny SUV have been making waves since long now.

However, if you expected that this base variant will start from low prices, you will be disappointed since the new smaller engine is only available on the special editions TRD Sportivo, which are promoted as limited editions but remain in the lineup forever.

This is the same engine which does duty on the Innova albeit the specs have been improvised for the new SUV. On the Fortuner, this new 4 pot 2,494 cc DOHC engine churns out a maximum power of 144 PS at 3,400 rpm and a peak torque output of 343 Nm in the range of 1,600-2,800 rpm. To give you an idea, the same engine on the Innova, produces a meak 102PS of power at 3,600 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1,200-3,600 rpm.

In comparison, the 3.0L Fortuner produces 171PS of power and 343Nm of torque for the MT variants and 360Nm for the AT variants. So, there is not much of a difference when we talk about specifications. The Fortuner 2.5L weighs 1,850 kg for the MT and 1,880kg for the AT variant.

It is available only in two colour options, Super White and Silver Metallic.

Fortuner 2.5L TRD Sportivo is available in…
Fortuner 2.5 4×2 Manual: Rs 24,44,200
Fortuner 2.5 4×2 Automatic: Rs 25,44,200
