Having showcased the concept version at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012, Land Rover has confirmed that the Range Rover Evoque Convertible will go into production and will hit the markets in 2016. The Evoque convertible will be produced alongside the three-door and five-door versions of the premium SUV at the company’s Halewood plant in the UK. The automaker has already commenced testing the vehicle discreetly and released official photos and videos of the prototype doing test runs in the Crossrail tunnels 40-feet below London.

Land Rover says that the Evoque Convertible is the first vehicle to be driven in the 42 kms long network of Crossrail tunnels which provided the perfect disguise to engineers to hide the prototype with its roof down, without having to worry about auto paparazzi. The tunnels are still under construction and hence provided the ideal landscape to explore the premium SUV’s all-terrain ability in an uncharted territory, stated that company.

More details on the 2016 Range Rover Evoque Convertible will be announced by the end of this year and will arrive at UK dealerships next year. Sold in 177 countries globally, the Evoque is one of the most popular offerings from Land Rover and the convertible version will be a one-of-its-kind offering in the luxury SUV space. An Indian launch can be expected by the end of 2016 or early 2017, being brought in via the CBU route.
