The iconic brand MINI owned by BMW has been popular in India and has been the first choice of the affluent folks looking for a hatchback to drive within the city. This has resulted in MINI registering decent sales numbers for its cars in India. After the consolidation of its model range worldwide, MINI launched the 3-door and 5-door diesel engined models in India late last year. However, it is the petrol-powered Cooper S which is the real deal and gives an amazing driving experience. Hence, MINI has launched the Cooper S in the country today priced at Rs. 34.65 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The MINI Cooper S is available only in the 3-door configuration in India and has grown in size when compared to the previous generation model. Based on BMW’s new UKL platform, it has a more mature design, added gizmos and more space thanks to the increased dimensions and wheelbase. The hatchback is longer by 98 mm, wider by 44 mm and 7 mm taller. However, it still retains the go-kart like handling it is known for. The interiors have received a lot of upgrades too and are more practical now. Ergonomics have been given a lot of importance which has led to the speedometer being shifted behind the steering wheel. The MINI comes with an 8.8-inch touchscreen display which houses the infotainment system.
The engine is the highlight of the MINI Cooper S. It is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol motor which comes with a twin-scroll turbo taking the power to 192 BHP while torque peaks at 280 Nm. The engine combined with a very potent chassis will provide owners with an enjoyable driving experience. The car will be imported via the CBU route which is a reason for the high cost. The host of customisation options helps the customer to customise the Cooper the way they fancy. John Cooper Works (JCW) accessories and upgrades are also on the cards and will be launched soon.
