“It is not advisable for girl students to discontinue their studies in the middle yielding to any kind of pressure as education is the key to their empowerment. The high dropout rate among girls at high school level is a matter of serious concern. Girl students should concentrate on their studies despite the odds for their self-reliance and empowerment,” he said.

Community Development Programme Officer (CDPO) B Manoranjani said, “Girl child education is essential for family healthcare and development of society. It will make a real difference on social development. Hence awareness about girl child education should be created among people in rural areas to check the school dropout rate and child marriages. Girl students should properly utilise the opportunities coming in their way to achieve career heights.”

World Vision India coordinator K Yesuratnam said the organisation was in the forefront in promoting girl child education through various initiatives. Later, Yesuratnam and Anjaneya Reddy distributed bicycles to 37 girl students of municipal corporation schools. VMC education officer Durga Prasad, Childline coordinator A Ramesh, World Vision coordinators YS Sangeetha Rao and Satyaraj and parents of girl students were present.
