The Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi, has come forward to rescue 20 mountaineers from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh who have been stuck at Mount Everest ever since the devastating earthquake struck Nepal. The mountaineers are trapped at 17,598 feet above sea level and have been forced to cut short the climb and take shelter at the base camp.
The hikers are currently lodged on the northern face of the mountain that falls under the Chinese territory and the Chinese government is planning to drive them down to Lhasa or Chengdu which are the nearest airbases. But so far there is no clarity on the rescue mission.
Wing commander S Kutty, who is the honourary secretary of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, said, “I am taking up the responsibility to rescue the stranded mountaineers. Relatives and agencies can forward to provide any information on the stranded to IMF member from the two Telugu speaking states K Ranga Rao.
