The Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) decided to dedicate its global jubilee of the first successful Indian Mount Everest summit by mobilizing people and collecting funds for the earthquake victims. Senior Everestors like Capt MS Kohli, Col N Kumar and Major HPS Ahluwalia would be playing an integral part in this initiative by training volunteers in sending rehabilitation material.

As part of the initiative, IMF would be conducting a series of seminars besides organising teams which will go to inaccessible and remote earthquake affected areas and help in taking material like tarpaulin, medicine besides construction material. The efforts to reach out to the earthquake victims would begin with a national seminar organised in collaboration with the SGTB Khalsa College, Delhi University on the May 21.

This would be followed by visits of various teams of mountaineers, doctors, paramedics and psychologists who will be leaving for Nepal in the coming days. “The aim will be to provide succor to people who are stuck in the inaccessible areas in a long term,” said an IMF member. IMF will send its members to help/facilitate in carrying the men and material.

A number of hospitals and doctors have approached IMF and the teams are being formed which will be inducted in these areas in the coming days. This activity is also being undertaken in all zonal offices of the IMF and the legendary mountaineers have agreed to personally visit these regional offices to give it the required impetus.
