M KoteswarammaIn a rare surgery, a kidney tumour weighing about 2.5 kg was removed from the body of a 45-year-old woman at Nagarjuna Hospital in Kanuru.

Hospital chief operating officer CLN Reddy said that M Koteswaramma of Movva Village in Krishna district was admitted to the hospital on April 22 with severe complications in upper abdomen and passed blood through urine.

On examination, the patient was found to be having a cancerous kidney tumour. A specialist team comprising Dr Kaushik Hari, Dr Srilakshmi and Dr Mukunda Rao, removed the tumour of 20x15x12 cm dimensions along with the kidney from the body.

The tumour, which was five times a normal one in size, might have proved fatal if the affected kidney was not removed on time. “The patient is recuperating well after the surgery, which was performed under the NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme, and she will be discharged soon,” Reddy said.
