History:

The famous Moula Ali hill which has the Moulali Dargah was once upon a time called Malikarjunagiri, because of the old Malikarjuna (Lord Shiva) temple there. It is since then that the area came to be popularly known as Malkajgiri.

BT Sreenivas, general secretary, Federation of Residents Welfare Association of Malkajigiri, said, “Malkajgiri has emerged from a gram panchayat of 6,000 people to a municipality of population 4.75 lakh.”

Problems:

Sreenivas said that the area suffers mainly from inadequate drinking water supply, restrictions and closure of main roads leading to Secunderabad via army areas. “Our efforts to get the issues to the notice of Army authorities and the GHMC have gone in vain,” Sreenivas added.
