Syed Vicaruddin, the chief editor of Rehnuma-e-Deccan and the chairman of Indo-Arab League Hyderabad, will be conferred with the order of the ‘Star of Jerusalem’ for over four decades of his continued support for the Palestinian struggle for the relisation of statehood and sovereignty, by the President of Jerusalem.

The announcement of the honour, to be conferred on Saturday, was made by Palestine President’s special advisor and supreme judge Dr Mahmoud Sidqi Al-Habbash at a conference held at Syed Vicaruddin’s house on Friday. It is the same day when Israelis occupied Palestine and made 150 Palestinians refugees.
Speaking at the event, Vicaruddin said, “India has always lent a helping hand to Palestine in its tough times. But the situation in Palestine is worse than ever; they are deprived of basic right to free life, access to religious places. It is high time that we realise it and do our bit in creating a difference.” He also stressed that there is a need for India to change its foreign policy as far as Palestine is concerned.
Announcing the honour, Dr Mahmood Habbash said, “Palestine has received immense support from India, particularly through Vicaruddin’s organisation Indo-Arab League, which has been supporting Palestine in all its hard times since four decades.” Habbash recalled that it was when Vicaruddin met with an accident enroute a public meeting in Gulbarga to express solidarity to Palestinians that Palestine President Mahmood Abbas decided to visit Hyderabad to enquire his health and recovery.
Speaking about his future plans for Palestine, Vicaruddin said that he has proposed an Indo-Arab Cultural Centre, which will house a library, cultural gallery, reading room and a mosque. The centre, believed to be the largest in the world, will be built at Road No 10, Banjara Hills.
Palestinian ambassador Adnan Abu Alhijaa said that the delegation wanted to celebrate the Lailatul-Meraj with Indians. Minister of Embassy of Palestine in New Delhi Saleh Fhied Mohammed, vice president of Indo-Arab League Mir Akbad Ali Khan, project director Sayyid Ahmed Amiruddin and others were present.
