To discuss the reported atrocities against the Schedule Castes (SC) and Schedule Tribes (ST), district collector K Nirmala chaired a district level vigilance and monitoring committee meeting on Wednesday. It was observed in the meeting that 204 cases among SCs and STs were reported in the financial year 2014-2015 while 36 new cases were added in April. Also, 42 wrongly filed cases have been closed and 172 cases investigations are in progress.


In the meeting, Nirmala directed all the investigating officers- police, revenue divisional officers and social welfare department officials to expedite the process and appealed to them to render justice to the victims and punish the offenders as per the provisions of the law.


B Subba Rao, a member of the SC and ST community, said, “Majority people fear to go to the police stations to lodge complaints as the treatment is not kind and helpful.” He appealed the police authorities to be friendly and extend helping hand to the victims. DCP Ravi Varrma, DRO incharge Sharada Vadan and others were present.
