Problems

G Balaswamy from Save Our Urban Lakes says, “The lake is subject to rampant encroachments where buildings and apartments have been built by land sharks. The FTL, fencing and boundaries were broken and unauthorised roads were laid and nalas were buried. The entire lake and its surroundings have turned into a cesspool causing health hazards to the neighborhood.”

According to government land records of Balanagar mandal, the lake was originally spread over 22.21 guntas. Due to rampant encroachments, the lake has been reduced to 17 acres. “Cases filed in the court are still pending. The government should look into these activities and take necessary action to put an end to this menace,” Balaswamy added.
