About 33 per cent urban and 25 per cent rural Indians are hypertensive. The number of people with hypertension is projected to increase from 118 miilion in 2000 to 214 million in 2015m with nearly equal number of men and women. One in every five Indian adults not only suffers from Hypertension but also from diabetes. WHO says in its 2012 report that in India, only 23.10 per cent men and 22.60 per cent women over 25 year suffer from hypertension.

With over 139 miilion patients, India accounts for 15 per cent of world’s uncontrolled hypertension patients.
