New Delhi: WonderBoxx, a learning tool kit was unveiled in the Capital. IIT Kanpur alumnus Deepanshu Arora teamed up with Parita Parekh, an alumnus of US-based Brown University to create the learning tool kit. It is backed by a team of pedagogy experts, product designers, children authors, illustrators and young parents.

The product is designed specifically for children up to the age of 8. WonderBoxx enables the child to create a home lab, to construct ideas, to lead hands-on inquiry and to develop knowledge. Toys, games, books, encyclopedias and do-it-yourself activity material can be subscribed every month.

It follows different guiding philosophies for every different age group. For children between the age of 1 and 3, it explores learning through imaginative and sensory play; for children between the age of 3 and 5, it provides materials to facilitate exploration, creation and learning and for 5-8 year old children, it delivers resources for children to discover and innovate.

The ultimate aim, say developers, is to instill curiosity and creativity to help children develop into life-long learners."As a kid I was very curious and whenever there was a radio playing, I wanted to know who it was that sat inside. Those days we used to play a lot, used to break a lot of toys and had much hands-on learning.

But when I see kids today they just sit in front of the TV all day or are engaged with ipads and smartphones," says Arora, who graduated from electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology. It targets eight key developmental areas, cognition, art, crafts and aesthetics, math and manipulative, motor and sensory, language strengthening, play, organising and structuring besides music and sound.

Available on monthly subscription basis, every box is based on a theme that aims at development of an area which is of interest to the child. Mehak Ahuja, mother of a 3-year- old said, “It is extremely important to create an environment to support young children’s creativity and creative learning. WonderBoxx is indeed a wonderful opportunity for my kid to instill the act of self-expression.”

The box for toddlers comprises tools designed to enable children to learn about colours and painting. It contains wooden toys and organic colours, a colouring book, sticker book etc. Another box for preschoolers introduces them to the concept of space, astronauts, spaceships, solar system, planets and stars through a journey of making, constructing, crafting and creative thinking. The box for older children contains tools to build their own wooden cars, airplane gliders, craft super straw rockets model simple rotor blades and spin a collection of wooden tops.
