Silk India Expo 2015 was formally inaugurated by Tollywood actress Bhavyasri and socialite Ananya Simlai at Raja Rajeshwari Gardens near Diamond Point. Weavers and artisans from 21 states have set up 60 stalls at the six-day expo which is being organised by Hastashilpi Artisans and Weavers Welfare Association, It will be on till June 15.

Weavers and artisans from 21 states have set up 60 stalls at the six-day expo which is being organised by Hastashilpi Artisans and Weavers Welfare Association, It will be on till June 15.


The expo is showcasing a wide range of pure silk and cotton fabrics, handloom saris, dress material, semi-stitched salwars, bed linen, trendy footwear, hand block print saris, suits, silk bed covers, designer dress materials, laces, kurtis, hand woven matka, Assam Muga fabrics, Apoorva Silk sarees, Baluchari, Dhaka Masli, Gicha and boutique sarees.


The 60-odd stalls are laden with Kantha, zordoshi, Lucknow chikan work, Bhagalpur suits, Banarasi, Reshmi, printed silk sarees, Maheswari, Chanderi silk sarees and suit, mulberry silk with temple border, Banaras Jamdani, Mysore silk, crepe and georgette silk, chiffon and tassar silk and suits.


“Through these exhibitions, we will be able to create a good market for weavers and customers. It’s very nice to see various apparel, pure silk designer wear and furnishings which are being showcased under one roof,” said Bhavya.“The aim of Hastashilpi is to promote and facilitate a direct interaction between the producer and the consumer, They are also able to offer products of good quality at competitive prices since there are no middlemen involved,” said organiser Abhin.
