Government General Hospital (GGH) is emerging as a haven for organ transplantation, thanks to the infrastructure facilities including highly experienced medical faculty, operation theatres and the state-of-art facilities available at the referral hospital.

The hospital superintendent Dr T Venugopala Rao had written to the chairman of Jeevandhan Trust in Hyderabad mentioning about the availability of two ultra-modern modular theatres and the state-of-the art technological and surgical equipment, trauma care centres and more than everything the presence of super speciality doctors in the hospital.

The hospital superintendent made a fervent plea to the Jeevandhan Trust Chairman to permit the Guntur Medical College hospital to undertake organ transplantation from the brain dead patients and carry on the organ transplantation operations.

The permission which the hospital administration is expecting to get soon will be a great boon to the scores of poor patients who come from several adjoining districts in the state with multiple ailments.

Hospital is already carrying on heart transplantation surgeries with the help of Hyderabad-based heart and liver transplantation surgeon Dr Ale Gopalakrishna Gokle who is the official consultant of GGH.

The government had also given Rs.5.36 crore to the hospital for equipping itself surgically for carrying on organ transplantations. A generator costing Rs.80 lakh was also installed to ensure 24 hour power supply to the surgical block.

The necessary equipment will be made available in two months. The hospital's professor in Urology Dr Ravi Chander also has the expertise and experience for carrying on kidney transplant operation. The hospital is expected to graduate into a multi-organ transplantation super speciality hospital in a span of two months.
