Silver jubilee celebrations

Hyderabad Zakat and Charitable Trust celebrated its 25th year on Sunday. "Zakat should reach the deserving and the impoverished people and it is the moral duty of the benefactors to ensure that Zakat is distributed through trusted channels,” said Omer Jaleel, secretary, Minority Welfares Department.

Jalaluddin Akbar, Minority Welfares, said, "Charitable organisations play a very important role in cleansing the slums off poverty and illiteracy.” The trust has managed to conduct successful remarriages of 95 widows at a cost of Rs 20.86 lakh, distributed scholarships worth Rs 73.43 lakh, provided school uniforms to 12,000 students, aiding education for nearly 25,000 students in impoverished pockets of the twin states.
