“What is perplexing is people are aware that plates fitted on roadside do not comply with government specifications, yet they go for them”, said C Chandrashekar, a social worker. Sukvinder Singh, (name changed on request) a resident of west Marredpally said, “The HSNP that I got for my vehicle is the same as that of the ones of RTA.


Moreover, once the government calls for fitment I would go for a new one.” While there are people who are ready to replace the old with new ones as per government notification, Road Transport officials feel that not all would go for it. By the sale of lookalike HSNP, the government also loses VAT.


A senior officer of the transport department said that people selling fake ones are not only violating rules and selling inferior quality but cause huge loss to the government.
