Washington: An Indian-American woman is one of the nine people who were chosen for American cable television network HBO's writers' fellowship programme. "Prathiksha Srinivasan, along with writing partner Joshua Levy, was chosen out of 2,000 submissions for an eight-month-long HBO's fellowship programme. A series of master classes will be held in mid-August at the HBO campus in Santa Monica, California," a statement on HBO's official website read.
"The classes will consist of discussions with HBO executives and showrunners and will focus on character, story, pitching, securing an agent, and networking," the statement added. Hailing from Chennai, Srinivasan's love for writing stems from the Hindu mythological stories that her grandmother told her in childhood.
Moving to the US was a culture shock that resulted in her passion for characters who are stuck between where they come from and where they are going. Srinivasan earned bachelor’s in literature from the University of Texas. The Writing Fellowship programme caters to those writers who are interested in building a career in series television. Writers develop original pilots and are considered for series staffing opportunities.
The programme includes one week of master classes where the fellows will participate in discussions with HBO executives and show runners. Discussions will focus on character, story development, pitching, securing representation, and building a professional network.
