ANIMAL AND BIRD SACRIFICES NEAR TEMPLES

Sri Sri Sri Sadguru Rooprahit Ahimsa Yogishwar Veer Dharmaja Mata Jeevarakshaka Trust, which is waging a relentless battle against cruel animal sacrifices at places of worship across the state, decried the flouting of orders issued by the government with regard to banning animal and bird sacrifices in and around the temples in Hyderabad.

Despite various existing laws to protect these animals against such cruel acts and the High Court’s orders (in PIL 370 of 2012) asking authorities to initiate action against violators; the practice of animal and bird sacrifice goes on unchecked and unabated. According to Jeevarakshaka Trust convener, Y Yadav Rao, the inhuman practice continues at various different temples in secret.

“Though the instances of violation of rules by the people were brought to the notice of the authorities, no effort is being made to root out the obnoxious practice,” said Rao. Jeevarakshaka Trust, with the blessings of her holiness Sri Sri Sri Mahayogini Manikeshwari Matha Trust has approached government officials and the devasthanams of various temples to put an end to this evil.

The delegation led by Y Yadav Rao with members – Kunta Rama Krishna, R Jagan Reddy, MP Gynaneshwar and Venkatesh – called on the Chief Secretary Dr Rajeev Sharma and submitted a memorandum to him requesting to ensure strict implementation of the government and High Court orders vis-à-vis banning animal and bird sacrifices at places of worship.

The Chief Secretary assured all help to the Trust in implementing the orders accordingly. In view of Bonalu festivities in the city, Jeevarakshaka Trust has launched an awareness campaign on need to protect mute animals and also to promote cleaner environment.
